Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information Yomessenger collects when you use our mobile apps, our web app at web.yomessenger.com and our websites, how we use it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, write to [email protected].
1. Information you give us
- Account: your name, username, email address, password (stored only as a hash, never in readable form) and profile photo.
- Sign in with Apple or Google: the account identifier Apple or Google gives us, and the name and email address they share. With Apple this can be a private relay address; with Google it can include your profile photo.
- Profile details you choose to add: a bio, country and similar optional fields.
- Your content: messages, photos, videos, voice notes, files, stickers, gifts, status updates, reels, channel posts and comments you send or publish.
- Contacts (iPhone app only, and only if you allow it): the phone numbers in your address book and the names you saved for them, including people who do not use Yomessenger. We use them only to find which of your contacts use Yomessenger; when we find one, we add them to your friends. We never contact people who are not on Yomessenger. Uploaded contacts are kept for up to 180 days after your last sync and are deleted with your account. The Android app does not read your contacts.
- Location you share: when you send a location in a chat, we use your device location for that message only. We never track your location in the background.
- Coins: the coins you receive and spend on gifts and channel subscriptions. The App Store and Google Play versions of Yomessenger do not sell coins. In the version available from our website, a coin top-up request includes the payment proof you upload.
- Support and reports: what you send us when you contact support or report something.
2. Information collected automatically
- Device information: device model and name, operating system, app version, language, and the tokens used to send you notifications and incoming calls.
- IP address and approximate location: when you sign up, sign in and while you are online, we record your IP address and work out an approximate location from it (country, region and city, and the network provider). We use this to protect accounts and prevent fraud, and to show general usage by country.
- Sign-in history: the time, IP address, approximate location and device of each sign-in. We keep it for up to 12 months.
- Activity needed to run the service: when you were last online, and message delivery and read status.
- Websites: our website counts visits using a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address and your approximate city and country. The web app keeps you signed in using your browser's storage. We do not use advertising cookies.
Yomessenger contains no advertising, analytics or tracking software, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
3. How we use information
- To provide the service: deliver messages and calls, show channels, reels and status updates, and sync your chats across your devices.
- To keep Yomessenger safe: protect accounts, detect spam, fraud and abuse, review reports, and enforce our Terms of Service and Community Guidelines.
- To process coins, gifts and channel subscriptions.
- To send you notifications and service messages, such as sign-in codes.
- To fix problems and improve the app.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your messages for advertising.
4. How your messages and calls are protected
Everything between the app and our servers travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS). Messages are not end-to-end encrypted: they are stored on our servers so you can use Yomessenger on several devices and restore your chats. Authorised staff can access content only when needed to investigate a report, keep people safe, fix a problem you asked us to look at, or comply with the law. Voice and video calls pass through our call servers and are not recorded; your chat keeps a call entry with who called, when and for how long.
5. Who can see your information
- Other users: your name, username and profile photo; your status updates to the audience you choose; anything you post in groups, channels or reels to the people who can see them. Your email address and phone number are not shown to other users.
- Service providers who run parts of Yomessenger for us, under contract and only for that purpose:
- Contabo (server hosting, Singapore) and Cloudflare (network delivery and protection).
- Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging, which deliver notifications. A notification can contain the sender's name and a preview of the message; you can turn previews off in your device settings.
- Brevo, which sends emails such as sign-in codes.
- Google Maps Platform, which draws maps and suggests places when you share a location.
- ip-api.com, which we ask for the approximate location of an IP address.
- Apple and Google, when you sign in with them.
- Authorities, when the law requires it, or when needed to protect the safety of people or the service.
Our servers are in Singapore, and some providers above process data in other countries, including the United States and the European Union. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
6. How long we keep information
- Account information: while your account is active.
- Messages and media: until they are deleted. When you delete a message for everyone, it is removed from our servers. Status updates disappear after 24 hours.
- Uploaded contacts: up to 180 days after your last sync.
- Sign-in history: up to 12 months.
- When you delete your account, we immediately delete your profile, name, username, email address, phone number, photo, password, uploaded contacts, friends, status updates, sign-in history, location information, notification tokens and your Apple or Google sign-in link. Messages you already sent stay in the other people's conversations, shown as from "Deleted Account", as in other messaging apps. Channel posts and comments stay unless you delete them first. We keep records we must keep by law, such as coin transaction records, only for as long as required.
7. Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile and privacy settings in the app at any time.
- Turn off contacts, location, camera, microphone and notification access in your device settings.
- Block and report people, groups, channels, posts and comments from inside the app.
- Delete your account in the app under Settings › Account › Delete account, or follow the steps on our account deletion page.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it, by writing to [email protected]. We answer within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
8. Security
We use encrypted connections, hashed passwords and restricted access to our systems. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password and keep your devices safe.
9. Children
Yomessenger is not intended for anyone under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 16; if you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. If the changes are significant, we will let you know in the app before they apply. The date at the top shows the latest version.
